Fort Persephone Military Training Academy, Earth
A.C. 275
“Blue leader, this is Mission Control you are cleared for launch.”
“Roger mission.” said Blue leader, “Blue flight prep for launch. What’s the briefing today Mission?”
“You will take Blue squadron in RazCom Trailblazers and fly to waypoint one.” Stated Mission Control, “Afterwards you are to inspect the area around waypoint one and report any anomalies back to the Constance. Do Not Engage any hostiles unless fired upon!”
“Thanks for the briefing Mission,” Blue leader stated, “and I hope it ain’t as boring as the last one.”
“Yeah well I hope you boys have a good time out there. Good luck Seth.”
“Thanks Mission.” answered Seth, “Alright ladies and gentlemen we are go in 10 . . . 9 . . .8 . . . 7 . . . 6 . . . 5 . . .4 . . .3 . . .2 . . .1 . . . Go!!!”
The twelve RazCom fighters leapt from the bay of the carrier and moved into formation off the port of the Alliance carrier Constance and started reporting in. After everyone reported in, Seth headed the squad towards waypoint one and set the autopilot on. Seth had been leading Blue squadron for several weeks now and pretty much trusted everyone he was training with. The boys and girls in his class were the elite at the academy and could handle pretty much anything that the instructors could throw at them besides the instructors themselves, maybe. Although he trusted his comrades he didn’t trust the instructors because this wasn’t a regular training operation. For one it was at midnight when everyone was supposed to be sleeping and second it just didn’t make sense to use heavy fighters for a reconnaissance mission.
Seth switched to comm. 5,
“Anyone besides me feel that this mission is slightly screwed up?”
“This is Blue 3, are we on a secure channel?”
Blue 3, that would be John Discon. If anyone were going to bring up something like that it would be him. Well I can understand were he’s coming from, thought Seth. Waking us up at midnight before the graduation ceremony, jeez what were they thinking!
“Roger 5, it’s secured,” spoke Seth.
“Oh, well then yes I find this op to be seriously decked,” John quipped.
“No crap.” spoke Terrance Bonly, Blue 2, “Where the helk do they get off waking us up in the middle of the night!”
As others let out there opinions of how this training op was being conducted and the such, Captain Merichek sat in the control room next to four men in tailored suits listening in on their ‘secure’ channel. Merichek let out a laugh as he heard some of their complaints. If this were a regular training mission he would have had to bust them for this kind of talk, but the four guys sitting next to him had ordered him to send up his best squadron and not tell them anything about what they were going to be doing up there. I guess that merits some flexibility to the rules he thought.
“Alright boys . . . “
“Ahem,” quipped Kathen Dunlop, Blue 4.
“ . . . and girls, lets get focused.” Seth said, “Whatever the captain and our instructors have concocted for us on this little jaunt let’s be on our toes. Blue squadron, I want us to go tight echelon. Lets fog up their radar, make whoever’s out there think we’re something we’re not. God knows what our commanders are up to.”
Blue squadron began to fly closer together making them look more like six bombers rather than a full squadron of heavy fighters. Four mobile suits sat in the coldness of space at waypoint one waiting for Blue squadron. They had orders to engage and destroy all Alliance fighters. Their leader let a slight smile tug at his lips as he waited for them to arrive. Interesting, they only sent six bombers against us.
“Yo, I got something here!” exclaimed Kathen.
“What do you got Kat?” asked Seth.
“Contacts bearing x556789, y592104, z333345. Looks like four modified Stallion mobile suits,” she said in wonder, “but I can’t tell from this distance.”
“Alright thanks for the info.” Seth told his communications officer,
“Mission Control this is Blue leader reporting contacts at waypoint one. Believed to be modified Stallion type mobile suits. We’re heading in to check out what they are up to.”
“Copy Blue leader, proceed to waypoint one and investigate. Remember Do Not Fire Unless Fired Upon.”
As Captain Merichek’s communications officer gave the order he felt sorry for them and hoped that they would not get slaughtered out there. Merichek looked over at the suits and they only stared at the monitors observing the mobile suits and his training squad as they headed to waypoint one. The order the communications officer gave them was another thing the suits wanted, supposedly to see if they fighter pilots were worth their training. Merichek thought otherwise for his superiors hadn’t told him of any kind of pilot check up.
“Sheii - - ,” Blue twelve never finished the word as his fighter was blown to dust.
“Evasive maneuvers,” Seth spoke, “break by wingmen and engage those lousy S.O.B.’s.”
“Stallion group, engage the fighters, destroy all leave no survivors,” the lead pilot ordered his troops. So they’re fighters not bombers. Doesn’t matter just more practice.
“Hey Seth which one do we take,” asked Terrance.
“We don’t.” said Seth, “we are covering for Blue eleven right now he’s all alone with one of those guys gunnin’ for him.”
“Roger.”
The mobile suits nailed 5 of the RavCom fighters without taking any damage. Seth and Terrance lost Blue eleven when two mobile suits tried to kill all of them in a pincer attack. Seth’s missile threat lock warning light up as one of the Stallions tried to take him out from above. Seth evaded the missile by inverting and pulling up on the stick while dropping missile decoys. Seth came around on one of the Stallion mobile suits as it tried to pick off Blue six, his wingman was already one of the dead. Seth selected the Teflon coated Kafka missile, and targeted the mobile suit and got an instant lock. Before the Stallion could maneuver he fired the missile ripping it to pieces in the ensuing explosion.
“Damn straight!” Blue six exclaimed. Right after he said that a bullet from the lead mobile suit ripped him to shreds.
“Hey boys I could use a little help right now!” Kathen shrieked as two of the mobile suits came on her fast and hard. Even though she was pulling every maneuver in the textbook, and some she just made up, she couldn’t shake both of them at once.
“We’re right there 4,” Blue’s three and five said at the same time.
“Blue leader I’ve got one half a click to our right, I’ll take the lead,” said Terrance.
“Roger 2, I’m following you close to make their radar think we are a bomber,” explained Seth.
The two Trailblazer heavy fighters closed in on the mobile suit at a moderate speed to fool the radar. At one quarter of a kilometer Blue two let loose with his TesJAK laser cannon, spraying shots back and forth threw the space the suit used to be in. Seth checked up on Kathen and saw Blue 3 get shot to pieces while Blue 5 blew the leg joint out on one of the attacking mobile suits. The mobile suit that was injured flew wide around the battle in an attempt to join up with the other mobile suit. I hope they can take care of themselves Seth thought as he turned his attention back to his wingman.
“Jeez this guy’s good.” Terrance said to himself as the pilot of the mobile suit evaded his shots to come around behind them.
“Blue two, break left on my mark.”
“Roger leader.”
“Mark!”
The pilot of the mobile suit fighting Blue leader and Blue two was the lead mobile suit pilot and was impressed with these two. As he saw the two break up he wondered what was going on and decided to arm the aft machine gun incase of an ambush, and went after Blue two. He had to give the guy some credit for making an attempt to evade him but he just wasn’t good enough. Just as he was about to use his machine cannon a laser shot ripped his suits arm off, taking the gun with it.
“Ha, take that ya cheese eatin’ saddle monkey!” exclaimed Seth.
Stallion lead took out his beam saber and sliced Blue two down in one swift motion while firing the aft machine gun to discourage the other pilot. As this was happening he saw the other two mobile suits finish up the other two fighters. He smiled as they waited for him to finish his opponent knowing even with a handicap he could take the fighter easily.
Seth wondered what the hell the other two suits were doing as the lead suit turned to face him with just a beam saber. This guy must be good two bad he isn’t smart. Blue leader armed his swarmer missiles and fired a pod at the fool. As the missiles approached the mobile suit, it evaded and shot down, with its tail gun, all the missiles as if they were nothing.
“Mission Control,” spoke Seth, “I am out gunned and outnumbered, please send reinforcements.”
“Roger Blue leader, Red squad is on its way. We advise that you fall back to coordinates x45678, y65432, z10938.”
“Thanks for the info mission, but I think I’ll kill them all now,” Seth spoke knowing he wouldn’t make it to those coordinates. They must have me flying against the damn main frame, no one is that good a pilot. Seth looked at his chrono and nearly swore over the comm. This battle has only been going on for 5 minutes! Last run it took them three hours to totally destroy his squad and that was with 10 to 1 odds against him and his team.
Seth turned his fighter towards the two mobile suits just sitting there and linked both his lasers and his 50mm Vulcan cannons. He dived into them spraying bullets and energy everywhere not caring if he hit only to make them move. Seth looked behind him to see the lead suit accidentally slash one of its own as it tried to hit him. Seth pulled a textbook immelman, inverted and dove towards the remaining mobile suits that had lost him in the hail of bullets. As he jetted towards the two suits he set the self-destruct and ejected from his suit only to see the lead mobile suit evade and fly off while the other caught his fighter in the chest and blew up along with his fighter. That’s when he got the mission end screen on his simulator, and the cockpit opened.
Jupiter Colonies, Jupiter
Just above Jupiter’s northern pole an immense ship passed by scanning what was left of the J3 colony. Just days earlier the colony had been transmitting a distress call frantically calling for help from anyone. Parts of the transmission were garbled but the gist of it was a rogue mobile suit team had attacked the colony for no reason and destroyed all escape pods and shuttles. Now the Alliance has sent one of their elite mobile suit carrier to investigate the problem. Well at least you get to do something productive rather than drilling all day, Captain Wallace thought.
The Jupiter Colonies had been formed 60 years back to provide places to live for the ever-crowding Earth and Mars citizens to live. It also created new jobs for a highly valuable fuel could be found in Jupiter’s upper atmosphere. This led to a growing economy for the peaceful nations of the Alliance. The Alliance had also built several space colonies around Saturn to mine the gasses on that planet too. Unbeknown to the Alliance several greedy corporations had bound together out in this frontier to try and overthrow the government to create their own. The great wealth the gas mining brings in to them allows them to build vast stores of military hardware like mobile suits.
“Sir.”
“Yes Lieutenant Polevsky?” asked Captain Wallace.
“Sir, we’ve reached the debris field of the J3 colony,” reported the sensors officer.
“Alright, I want to send a two squads of Leo’s and have a squad of Aries to back them up.” He said, “Send out the Taurus suits and have them guard this ship, who knows what’s still out there.”
As the order went out to the mobile suits, another group of suits awaited them in the remains of the colony. They had been hiding behind the big chunks disguising themselves as scrap, which fooled the big carrier’s sensors. These were the same suits that had destroyed the colony and now lie in wait to complete the rest of their mission. As the first Leo’s came into the debris field they were attacked suddenly and without warning. The attack was so quick they pilots of the mobile suits couldn’t issue a warning to their fellow pilots who soon came under attack also.
Major Todd Mullen was in charge of the Leo mobile suits sent out to inspect the wreckage. To him this was a pretty exciting day compared to the usual drills. Although he when he saw that 3 of his squad were no longer registering he no longer felt excited. Suddenly without warning a shot came out of the chunk of metal and hit the mobile suit on his left.
“Bloody hell!” he exclaimed, “Evasive maneuvers everyone, evasive maneuvers!! Ordog do you copy this is Talon leader!?”
“We read you Talon leader.” Spoke Lieutenant Null, “What’s your situation?”
“It’s an ambush. I read 60 no 100 enemy mobile suits out here!” he exclaimed trying to calm his fear, “I’m outnumbered and require assistance with the situation here!” After he said this two more in his group were blown to free floating atoms.
“Roger Talon leader we are sending all remaining Leo and Aries mobile suits to assist.” Spoke the Comm. officer.
Mullen found two of his buddies he knew from the academy who were in trouble and went to assist them. Mullen fired his Fine Lance machine gun into the enemy suits downing five at once taking them by surprise. His friends sent him their thanks as they joined him on his hunt to attack the enemy suits. Todd could see that these were advanced Virgo mobile suits only they didn’t act like the mobile doll version, they seemed to have human pilots.
A lone suit stood in the middle of the fray observing three particular mobile suits destroy his soldiers. Finally he decided to engage them for they seemed to be worthy opponents. On the way a few enemies got in the way but he destroyed him with the ease of a practiced warrior.
Captain Wallace sat in the bridge watching the battle on his display trying to see who needed enforcements the most. He knew he had experienced young men and women on his side, but they were slightly outnumbered and those damn Virgo suits of theirs had those shields that let them block most of the shots off.
“Send in two of our Aires squads to support Major Mullen’s team, they’re getting slaughtered,” Wallace spoke to his comm. officer. He was almost tempted to send in his Taurus suits to help but he knew that he shouldn’t unless absolutely necessary.
As Todd lost his two friends to a Stallion class mobile suit he swore in anger. Finally the pilot of the more advanced suit faced him and pulled out a beam saber. Alright two can play at this, he thought as he dropped his machine gun and wiped out his beam saber from under his shield. The two titans clashed and it seemed that Major Mullen was mainly on the defensive.
The pilot of the Stallion mobile suit smiled as he slashed at the Leo. He’s lasted this long he is a worthy opponent, he thought, those others were just following a superior warrior. As he went to attack again an explosion knocked him out of line and away from the pilot he was fighting.
Todd laughed at the other pilot’s misfortune. He had lead him right into his machine gun he dropped earlier in the fight and had it self detonate causing the other suit to fly off out of control. Major Mullen turned and made an arc with his beam saber taking off the Stallion’s tail gun so it couldn’t surprise him if he tried to sneak up on it.
“Commander Valentine, are you alright?” asked one of the Virgo pilots.
“I’m fine, and I’d like it if you would mind you own business.” Hoss Valentine replied angrily. He was slightly ticked off for letting that pilot surprise him like he did.
“Viper squad engage that carrier,” Valentine ordered his reserve unit.
“Holy . . . I mean sir, we have 50 hostile mobile suits heading towards us in attack posture.” Stated Lieutenant Polevsky.
“My God.” Said Wallace, “Send out half of the Taurus suits to intercept and engage. Have the remaining go out and help the main battle.”
“
Yes sir.”
The Taurus suits were his elite pilots and he knew he no longer could hold them back. He was out numbered five to one and wasn’t about to give up. He hoped the new variables he had just added would unnerve the enemy and make them retreat.
Colonel Restol of the 53rd Taurus space combat wing engaged the enemy with great aspiration of being the deciding factor in this battle. His troops soon came to dropping the odds to 3 to 1 and were very pleased with themselves.
“Commander Valentine, a new group from the carrier has just arrived and are making short work of our men!” exclaimed an excitable new lieutenant.
Valentine only hmphed and ordered the remaining of his troops out of hiding to engage the carrier and not mind the main battle. One hundred and one new troops came out of hiding on the far side of the debris field and engaged the carrier. The Ordog fought off many of the attackers and managed to do well on its own but would soon be over whelmed if help did not arrive soon. Five of the remaining Taurus suits returned from the intercept and began to engage the enemies around the carrier.
Whoa this is not good, thought Mullen. Mullen had found another gun from one of his fallen comrades and was trying to keep himself from ending up like so many of his friends. Out of the corner of his eye he saw a Taurus with a flying tiger on it being chased by three Virgos. Todd came up behind the Virgos and shot threw their shields and blew them back to their primary elements.
“Are you okay Colonel Restol?” Mullen asked recognizing the emblem.
“Yeah, yeah I’m fine just needed some help with those three just now that’s all.” He spoke, “Say have you tried to reach the carrier, I can’t seem to raise them?”
“No, but I’ll try.” He replied, “Ordog is Major Todd Mullen over. I repeat, Ordog this is Major Mullen is anyone there?”
“Mullen is that you?” Spoke someone threw the static. “This is communications officer Airen Null, we lost the Captain and most of the bridge crew. Me, Polevsky, and one of the pilots are all that are left!”
Colonel Restol grasped the situation faster than Todd did and spoke to the comm. officer,
“Lieutenant Null this is Commander Restol, I am assuming command since I seem to be the only high ranking officer left besides Major Mullen.”
“What should we do Colonel?” asked Null.
“Put me through to all Alliance mobile suits through a secure channel.” He said, “This Colonel John Restol of the 53rd Taurus Mobile Suit Space Combat Wing. Our ship has been severely damaged and I am the highest-ranking officer alive. This is the general retreat order. I repeat retreat and board the Ordog.”
The Alliance troops started to break off their battles and were falling back to the carrier. Little by little though, they were being picked off as they tried to either fly towards the carrier or get outnumbered as other enemy suits came into finish them off. Colonel Restol and Major Mullen were flying through the fray taking out enemy suits left and right as they made their retreat. The battered carrier had already made it to open space and was waiting for them before it opened up its AU jump drive. Seventy of the original 150 mobile suits made it back to the carrier before it activated its massive intersolar drive. The ones that didn’t make it were destroyed before they even got to the carrier. In a sort of twist of fate the enemy suits behind the carrier were vaporized by the engine’s exhaust as they rapidly speed up.
“Cowards,” said Valentine is a mocking tone. Couldn’t stay to finish it, don’t worry I’ll get you all next time, he thought. “Ha ha ahahahahahaha!!”
Suddenly Valentine’s main monitor came up with the face of a fat, red-faced man who looked like he was going to blow up with anger.
“Valentine what the hell are you still doing out there!!!” he screamed at the ace pilot. “I told you to return to the base after you had tested you pilots skills on the colony, not to stay and wait for an Alliance investigative team to show up!”
Valentine looked at the fat man and was bored with him. I cam do whatever I damn well please, he thought. This businessman doesn’t know anything about war. If you want to win you need strong pilots, he was just weeding out the weak from his group leaving the strong to survive and prosper from their success.
“No need to worry about your mobile suits, you can always build more.” Valentine stated, “But a good pilot isn’t producible, I was just making sure that the ones I have are worthy of combat. The ones that died are worthless and so should die with the Alliance, Sal Corthak.”
“I was just informed by one of your subordinates that you lost 200 of the 800 suits we gave you to command.” Corthak stated, “Those are unacceptable losses in the Company’s eyes!”
As Corthak was just starting to warm up another face appeared and intervened on behalf of Valentine, “That will be enough,” said the man, “I’m sure that Commander Valentine is aware of his performance and will be evaluated accordingly, until then I want him and his squad to return to the base immediately. Your skills have been proven to be outstanding as it is.”
At one of the mobile suits biding four freight haulers appeared out of a sensor cloak and picked up the remaining enemy suits into their enormous cargo modules. A lone suit remained out there, some how missed by the others, and was recording the withdrawal of the modified Virgo mobile suits into the ships. The pilot couldn’t decipher the code they were using so it left out the transmission that went on between the mobile suits. Took them long enough to leave the pilot though. All I have to do now is wait a few days to be picked up by another task force, I’m pretty sure I can live off military rations until then.
Fort Persephone Military Training Academy, Earth
Eight minutes. Only eight frickin minutes to completely annihilate me and my squadron. Seth sat in the simulator’s cockpit wondering about this seemingly impossibility. Damn! he thought as he punched the console, my team is not that bad. They had to have been using the mainframe, no human is that good, right? But then again the tactics and fighting style was just to irregular for any computer to have created. Suddenly he felt eyes looking down at him, as he looked up the lights above him blocked his view and all he could see was a patch reading Blue 4.
“
Hey, how’s it goin’?” Kathen wasn’t sure if he was alright or not seeing a dent in the side panel of the simulator.
“Did you see the time?” Still pissed off he ignored her question completely and said, “How did they do it is all I want to know.”
“I don’t know, but John saw some guys come out of the simulators and get escorted out by MP’s. All very hush, hush kind of thing. They didn’t even let us congratulate them on their win just shoved them into a one of the unused dorms and locked the doors.” She was getting kind of agitated thinking about that and a little annoyed that she didn’t have Seth’s full attention.
Seth just sat their thinking “how the hell did they do it.”
“Hello Earth to Seth,” Kathen announced noticing that Seth had drifted again. “Anyway the guys are waiting in the debriefing room and sent me to look for you since you didn’t show up on time.”
Seth just sighed to himself deciding that he and the Captain were going to have a little chat later on. Usually he was the first to know about new comers to the base after Captain Merichek since he had been living here almost all his life.
“So you want to go meet up with them, or do you want to sit in that chair for another five minutes?” she asked getting a little testy since he didn’t seem inclined to answer her.
“
Yeah, let’s go,” he answered her.
Seth and Kathen entered the briefing room together and could hear the multiple conversations going on in the room. Some of them were making comments like, “… did you see those guys fly…” and, “… damn man who were those people…” Terrance looked up to see his boss enter the room and let out a whistle to let the others that their leader was here, and also to shut them up.
“Well, well, well, look who’s finally decided to join the party.” John Discon was in a sarcastic mood because he was one of the guys to get shellacked by the mobile suit pilots. “So I hope you have a good excuse for being late like oh, I don’t know making out in the linen closet.”
Everyone in the room busted out laughing at what he said. Kathen turned a beat red and walked up to John and punched him in the side of the head knocking him off of from where he sat. This just made them laugh even harder at John’s misfortune. Seth managed to crack a smile, since he was still down about getting his ass handed to him in the simulator.
“Alright boys and girls, lets get down to business,” Seth started. “First of all did anyone else besides John see the mystery pilots? And second I would like to say congratulations to you all for passing the finals and graduating from this place.”
Everyone clapped after this and when it grew silent Terrance felt inclined to speak, “I didn’t really get to see them, but I did a little hacking and I found out these guys just got here this morning and the computer programming not long after their arrival. Now I couldn’t get into the program files, but I did see where these guys came from.”
“That’s good news,” stated Seth beginning to feel better, “so where did they come from.”
Terrance was a little reluctant because he didn’t totally believe the information, “It says that they are from the Luna Mobile Suit Training facility. I didn’t totally trust this so I checked in the shuttle bay and the ship they came in on isn’t from Luna, it looks more like a government ship. Real secretive and sleek.”
Seth was about to ask more on the issue, but he was interrupted by the comm. system. “Sergeant Seth Cossan, cadet Terrance Bonly, and Kathen Dunlop could you please report to Captain Merichek’s office please. Also Blue squadron, Red squadron, and Green Squadron members are to report to the main auditorium to get ready for the graduation ceremony. Thank you that is all.”
Seth looked at his two comrades and just shrugged motioning for them to follow him as he headed to the elevator. The three rode up in silence as they each wondered what the Captain would want to see them for. They walked down the hall, the boots of their heels clicking on the tiled floor as they made their way to the Captain’s office which was passed the mission control center for the simulators. The control room was huge since it had to monitor sixteen different simulator rooms at once. As they entered the Captain’s office Seth noticed that four guys in fancy suits were sitting near to Merichek’s desk watching as they came in and stood at attention.
“At ease.” Merichek didn’t like it when the cadets stood so rigid when in his office. “You’re probably wondering why I brought you three up here so I’ll tell ya.”
The four suits just watched patiently as Merichek was about to give them their first assignments. The first suit was wondering witch of those three was the guy who managed to destroy most of his special force mobile suit pilots.
“Terrance Bonly, you are getting a promotion to captain so you can lead a squadron into battle.” Merichek said with a slight smile. “Go on get out of here and have some fun with you friends before you have to depart for the Turnpin which is at 01700 hours.”
Seth and Kathen congratulated Terrance on his promotion and acquisition of a fighter squadron. Seth knew what it felt like because during his 10 years at the academy the only thing that made him happy was when he took over the Blue squadron training squad and was promoted to Sergeant. Come to think of it I’m the only person to ever be promoted that high while still in an academy, Seth thought.
After Terrance left Merichek started with the two remaining pilots, “Well I’ll leave your situations to these gentlemen.”
As Merichek left the room Kathen stared at the suits wondering who they were. She looked over at Seth trying to see if he was thinking the same thing. Damn he looks cute in that uniform she started thinking but caught herself before she started looking at him in a way that would betray her emotions towards him. Professional got to stay professional you can tell him how you feel later.
“Sergeant Seth Cossan and cadet Kathen Dunlop,” the second suit started looking down at their files occasionally flipping through the pages and finally closing them, “you two have some pretty impressive flight abilities. I can see how Kathen got hers, your father was an impressive pilot, but Seth is altogether a mystery. It says in your file that you parents died in a car crash and your Uncle had you enrolled here when you were five for pilot training. What I want to know is why you have never graduated in the ten years you have been at the academy?”
“Opportunity never arose for me to go anywhere I would be needed, sir.”
“And what opportunity would that be?” asked the second suit.
“Well I always wanted to be a Gundam pilots. But after the original Gundam pilots destroyed OZ and peace was established that kind of died. Having eighty years of peace made Gundams sort of useless to us.” Seth told him his greatest dream. He had once met one of the Gundam pilots when he was little, Duo Maxwell that’s who it was. Man was that guy cool even for some guy who was like seventy years old.
“What would you say if we could grant that wish of yours?” the fourth suit asked.
“Your joking right, this is some kind of ploy that Captain Merichek thought up to get some kind of dirt on me right?”
“We’re dead serious.” The third guy spoke in a kind of monotonous tone, never rising yet never falling.
“Where and when do I sign up!?” Seth was ecstatic, he felt light headed. This has got to be a dream he was thinking.
Suddenly Kathen interrupted, “Excuse me, uh where do I fit into all this?”
“We were just about to tell you.” The first suit said, “Six weeks ago one of the people we were training to fly the Gundams stole an experimental Stallion class mobile suit. It was one of the ones we had been using to train the pilots. Anyway while escaping he fought with and killed another of the trainees. Lucky for us the traitorous bastard didn’t know about the mobile suits and didn’t steal any information pertaining to them. We need you two to fill in for them. You are the best pilots we can hope for.”
“I’m going to take a wild guess and say that we are going to have to hunt him down and kill him.” Spoke Kathen a little excited about the opportunity to be a Gundam pilot.
“Also I should mention that one of the colonies around Jupiter was destroyed four days ago and we think the traitor is responsible. We sent out a carrier to investigate, but we are getting the Gundams ready just incase they are needed.” The third suit finally spoke after being silent for so long. “If there aren’t anymore questions we would like you to head to gate 9 and board the shuttle, and there is no need to worry about your things it was all packed as we were speaking.”
“I have one more question before we leave.” Spoke Seth wanting to ask them what he was going to ask the Captain.
“What is it?” the second suit asked somewhat annoyed with the young man.
“Who were the pilots that destroyed my team in the simulation?”
“Two of them you will meet when we get the Saturn, the other two were replacement pilots.” Spoke the first suit.
Seth nodded and followed Kathen out the door and headed two the shuttle. The four suits gathered up their things and went to see the pilots they brought along to tell them it was time to leave.
Arcontaley Military Base, Mars
The sensors officer was bored out of his mind; third shift wasn’t particularly fun for someone who was new here such as him. He looked out his window and laughed at what he saw, green grass grew on what was once called the ‘red planet.’ Eighty years ago this base was just a dream, now they’ve made it all the way to Jupiter. The two moons were shining bright as he looked out at the night sky. Phobos and Deimos almost drew him away, but a beeping from his radar screen caught his attention and brought him back to reality.
“Ah, General West I have a contact traveling at a great speed and decelerating fast.” He said trying not to sound to excited.
“What is its trajectory and estimated time of arrival?” the General was anxious to find out what it was. He suspected it to be the Ordog, but that would make it to early for a formal inspection.
“It came out of the Jupiter sector sir. I have lock on it, it appears to be the Ordog,” another one of the sensor officers declared.
“Communications officer Nilsson would you please hail them for me,” Stated General West.
“Yes sir, Alliance carrier Ordog this is Arcontaley mission control do you read me over.” Nilsson was about to hail them again but the war ship answered.
“Thank god we made it!” exclaimed a voice from the ship.
“Sir we are receiving info from the Ordog, its doesn’t look good.” Stated the sensor officer.
“Well what is it?” the General was getting tired with this guy always waiting for permission to speak.
“So far from what I’m able to read the Ordog no longer has the ability to move. It’s engines seem to have literally fallen off!” he said excitedly, “They probably used up all of their energy just getting here. Also the bridge is no longer on the ship and she has been hulled in multiple areas.”
“Get a rescue team in there right away. Nilsson please allow me to speak to the person in charge on that ship.” West was not happy with this at all. We are supposed to be at peace, so how did this happen? General West had been alive to see the remnants of OZ wiped out and relished the peace that followed. Damn it, Captain Wallace wasn’t dumb enough to fly through the asteroid field so they must have been attacked. But by whom?
“Sir you can speak to them now.” Spoke Nilsson.
“This is General West of the Alliance military, whom may I ask is speaking to me?” the General wanted to know who was in control of that ship at the moment.
“My name is Colonel John Restol, 53rd Taurus mobile suit forces, we need some help over here. We have lost over half of our forces and the remaining aren’t looking to good. This ship just barely made it here.” Restol said hoping that the ship wouldn’t suddenly burst into flames before a rescue team could arrive.
“Alright we just sent out a rescue team to pick you up. Now tell me what happened out there, where is Captain Wallace?” the General asked.
“Well, sir, we arrived at the remains of the J3 colony and were ambushed by an overwhelming force. After the main force was cut off, the Captain ordered my Taurus suits into combat to help save them.” Colonel Restol could still remember it as if was still happening, “If weren’t for Major Mullen who was in charge until I arrived at the scene all would have been lost. After seeing that there was no way to survive if we stuck around I ordered a general retreat. It was then that I found out that the bridge had been hit and the Captain was dead.”
After the colonel finished West had to sit down. He was a good friend to Wallace and hearing that he was dead wasn’t something he had expected. After a while of sitting and thinking, the General ordered a shuttle to pick up Colonel Restol and Major Mullen along with a copy of the ship’s records so he could understand what had happened out there.
The once proud warship was pulled into a docking station at a nearby orbital hospital. Fires still burned in some parts of the ship. A quarter of the nose was missing and great chunks of the dorsal ridge had been blown away. The bridge, which was positioned just in front of the central engine, was totally destroyed when that engine blew up as the ship achieved maximum speed during intersolar travel. The intersolar drive had been created 50 years after the Gundam pilots had destroyed OZ. It used antimatter-matter drives that caused the ship to travel at speeds greater than previous ship drive systems. Its immense power allowed humans to reach other planets in days rather than years. The colonization of Mars took only ten years after the antimatter-matter drives became available, and the Jupiter space colonies short after.
Top Secret Military Installation, Saturn
The pilots activated the shields to keep Saturn’s atmospheric pressure from crushing them, and guided the shuttle towards the space station that was hidden by the dense air. Seth watched from his seat as they approached the station code named Titan. He had met the other Gundam pilots during the trip and was excited to be a part of their team. The first guy he met was named Takeru Ogato. He seemed to be a cheerful fun loving guy that had been recruited from Japan. Seth also learned that he was the first person to be assigned to the new Gundam project. The other new Gundam pilot he met was a silent type. He didn’t speak much, but you could understand how he felt by looking at his eyes. Seth finally learned his name was Hans Frunsbaker when Kathen introduced herself to the guy. Even without the name you could tell that Hans was German from the way he looked. Both guys were 19 and had been with the project for three years, or so they said. They were surprised to learn how young Seth and Kathen were. Takeru was skeptical of Seth and Kathen’s skills as fighter pilots.
A base technician led Seth and Kathen to their quarters giving a tour of the places that they passed by. He explained to them that this base was also the location of a new experimental alloy they were making. After they got to their rooms the tech told them to report to the briefing room on the fourth floor at 2000 hours.
“Well this certainly has been an interesting trip.” Kathen was looking at Seth from across the hall where here room was.
“Yes it has.” Seth was wanted to sleep a little before he had to report in. “We sure are a long way from Earth.”
“We probably should get some sleep,” Kathen was watching Seth as he leaned on the doorframe to his room, “I know I’m certainly tired enough to sleep for a day.”
Seth let out a little laugh as he turned into his room and fell a sleep on his bed. Kathen watched him close his door and was kicking herself for not telling him her feelings. Way to go Kathen totally blew that chance. She set her alarm for twenty minutes before she needed to be up and fell asleep.
Sitting next to Hans in the manufacturing bay of the base, Takeru watched as the workers put the finishing touches on the first of three Gundams. The other two still needed at least a month to a month and a half of construction and programming before they would be finished. Man that new Ultra Gundanium is going to be nice on these beauties, Takeru thought. The new Ultra Gundanium was the alloy that the tech had talked about being produced at the facility. Takeru thoughts were interrupted when Hans spoke:
“I hope those guys in charge know what they are doing, bringing in those kids.”
“Don’t worry about it buddy. As long as you and I are here they shouldn’t do to bad.” Takeru was trying to cheer his friend up. Ever since that traitor had stolen one of the modified training suits and killed his brother, Hans hadn’t been to sociable to anyone but him.
“Hey what time is it?”
“Lets see it’s 1930 hours, time for us to head over to the briefing room.”
The two had to walk pass the dorms to get to were they wanted to go. As they went by Kathen steeped out of her room wearing one of the tight black shirts she liked wearing, and blue jeans. Takeru did a double take and nearly tripped over Hans.
“Sorry about that buddy,” he apologized picking dusting off his shirt.
“Hey is Seth up yet?” asked Kathen stretching out her back.
“Ah, no I didn’t see him come out yet.” Said Takeru, “You better wake him if he wants to be on time.”
Seth heard the knocking at his door and looked at his clock. He swore under his breath and threw on his pants and shoes, running out the door nearly forgetting his shirt. Kathen, Takeru and Hans were laughing at him when he caught up to them fighting to get his shirt on over his head.
“You forget to set the alarm clock Seth?” asked Takeru trying not to laugh. “Next time try hitting that little switch to the ‘on’ position.”
“Kids,” was all that Hans said although the gleam in his eye hid more.
The base commander was standing behind the podium as they walked in and took places standing or sitting around the room. The base commander introduced himself as Colonel Smith and welcomed the new pilots to the Gundam project. He went on to explain for security reasons, and the fact that the Gundams weren’t completed, they would not train in the new mobile suits. Instead they would train in supped up mobile suits that had traits of the Gundams. He even went so far as to tell Kathen and Seth that they had some RazCom interceptors if they wanted to go joy riding sometime.
“Now these Gundams have a new programming used to control them.” Started Colonel Smith, “It’s called a mind-jack. The mind-jack is an improved version of the Zero system and eliminates all of the side effects of the Zero system.”
“I didn’t think you could improve the Zero system,” interrupted Kathen.
“Well eighty years of research allowed us this victory my dear.” Colonel Smith told Kathen. “Actually the only bad thing about it is you need a surgically implanted head system behind the right ear.”
“Oh joy, what fun this will be!” Seth was just brimming with sarcasm.
RazCom Headquarters, Jupiter J1 colony
The heads of Razon Weapons and Common Fueling sat around the meeting table waiting for the president to show up. Many discussions could be heard throughout the congregation as the time wore on, but all talking stopped when the door opened and three men walked in. The first was the president of RazCom, Jesse Otaka. Sal Corthak and their new military commander, Hoss Valentine, followed him. This was the same man who attacked and defeated the Alliance carrier group days earlier.
“Mr. President I would like to discuss with you on your choice of this Valentine character leading our military,” spoke one of the chairmen attending the council.
Jesse Otaka was sick of hearing about Valentine from his subordinates, “What is it?”
“I heard he lost 200 mobile suits trying to destroy a single carrier that was not part of his assignment,” the chairman was not pleased when he heard that his valuable resources had been wasted.
“Yes, that is true and if you have any trouble with it tell me personally away from the assembly,” the menace in Jesse’s voice let them know that this would no longer be a topic. He knew that there would be some controversy when he hired on the Alliance traitor.
“Well with that aside lets get down to business,” Sal Corthak wanted to get out of this boring place as soon as he could. “We have the correct resources to start making the new Gundam mobile suits, and I think they will do nicely with the programming provided when Valentine came over to us.”
“With these new suits we should be able to take Earth by surprise and we will be its new leaders,” another chairman spoke up voicing the plans of RazCom.
“That is true we already have fighters in place to help the attack when we push for Earth. Although we still need to take Mars, they do have a military force there to you know.” Corthak was hoping to keep them from wasting money because of an oversight that would destroy their mobile suits.
RazCom had first endeavored in secret on making the Virgo mobile doll into a manually operated machine. The new model was called the Virgo HP series, HP for human pilot. Now that they had created these they started making new mobile suits using gundanium alloy. With these new mobile suits their plans to become the new rulers of the Alliance would be unstoppable. They already controlled all of Jupiter space and were stationing mobile suits in the asteroid belt ready to take Mars once they completed their new weapons.
“That may be all well and good but the obvious fact you are forgetting is that the alliance is already building and training Gundam pilots of there own.” Valentine let the idea sink in before he began again, “It may be a good idea to destroy the base they are stationed at before continuing with this little incursion.”
“And how do you know where this base is?” asked the same chairman who questioned about Valentine before.
“What kind of idiot are you? It’s obvious to me Osaka that you don’t have very competent men, or they aren’t doing their job correctly.” Valentine was furious that he had to deal with such inferior people, “Since you didn’t read the correct material, I shall tell you. I infiltrated the base as per orders nine years ago. During that time I received training to pilot a Gundam mobile suit. After a while I stole one of the training suits that gave you your programming information.”
“Hmph,” the chairman sat back still skeptical of the man across from him.
“Enough, this bickering is pointless.” Jesse interrupted them, “Valentine, you will lead the attack on Mars when the new suits are done, and also appoint a team to eliminate the Alliance’s Gundam threat.”
